Japan - 2018 - Hiroshima

Itsukushima Jinja
Shinto shrine on the island of Itsukushima, best known for its "floating" torii gate. It is in the city of Hatsukaichi in Hiroshima Prefecture in Japan, accessible from the mainland by ferry at Miyajimaguchi Station.

The name Itsukushima literally means 'island of worship' and from ancient times the island itself was worshipped as a god. The mystical Itsukushima Shrine built on the water was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1996.

100 LED Oscilloscope

...

This looks like a great project.

uses only 4 ICs
555 timer
4017 decade counter
LM3914 ... its a dot/bar display driver
LM386 ... amp

It's a solid state scope that uses LEDs to display.

The LM3914 is a monolithic integrated circuit that
senses analog voltage levels and drives 10 LEDs,

Wouldn't have great resolution, but excellent for visualising waveforms.
Something like this would be excellent to supply CVs to a modular synth.

You can find a similar circuit on page 108 of The Forrest Mims Engineer's
Notebook

The circuit for this scope was also published in August of 1979 in Popular Electronics
(page 72)

10 tips & tricks PLEXIGLASS working HOMEMADE

....

Very useful video.
Cutting the acrylic ... using a stanley knife vs jigsaw.
Use a metal blade in the jigsaw . slowest speed & water cooling if possible.

Stanley knife ... sharp blade, double sided tape .

Airgun .. looks good and easy for small pieces of acrylic

Syrgilla - syria - dead cities

Serjilla or Syrgilla (Arabicسيرجيلة is one of the best preserved of the Dead Cities in northwestern Syria.

The Dead Cities (Arabicالمدن الميتة) or Forgotten Cities (Arabicالمدن المنسية) are a group of 700 abandoned settlements in northwest Syria between Aleppo and Idlib

The Dead Cites were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011, under the name of "Ancient Villages of Northern Syria".

Serjilla is located in the  highland region of Jebel Riha, approximately 65 km north from Hama and 80 km southwest from Aleppo.

It is very close to ruins of another "Dead City", Bara

it was built in 473, already during the time of Christianity.
The dead cities flourished in the 5th and 6th centuries as they were situated on important trade routes.

Serjilla  and many of the other "dead cities" were abandoned in the seventh century when the Arabs conquered the region and discontinued merchant routes between Antioch and Apamea.
