Buchla 100 at the Library of congress

Great post on the legendary Buchla 100.
It now resides at the Library of Congress in Washington DC.
I reckon this should really be on display at the Smithsonian.
It's music room in the American History section in shows classical European instruments for some reason.

This is actually not the "original" commissioned system.
That system is at Mills college in Oakland, Ca.

It was originally at the San Francisco Tape Music Centre).

  1. Fantastic.

"Even though I couldn’t turn it on, at the peril of 50-year-old loose electrical connections"

The same situation exists with a VCS3's stored here at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, sadly!

  2. That's so cool that you have seen both.
I understand that the Powerhouse also has the very first VCS ... The VCS 1 which Don Banks commissioned from EMS.
It was the prototype for the VCS3 & synthi.
