Elk Elektroniks Workshop Meeting, Sat, 21st May 2022

It's been too long since the last meeting.
Covid virtually shut everything down last year but Australia is tentatively returning to normality.

They call this the "New Normal".

Anyway, facemasks and check-ins seem to be a thing of the past ... let's hope so.

This is the first Elk Elekroniks meeting in a long while. I understand the plan is to hold one every 2 months.

So the next will be in July, 2022.

Cool way to experiment with electronics
Thanks to Ed of Elk Elektroniks for holding these meetings.

Allinaire Jondent - HARD MOOG

....

Some '4 on the floor' from Moog featuring the DFAM, Subharmonicon and Matriarch.
About 95% of the track is all MOOG goodness (with some additional percussion and processing in Ableton). A collaboration between Allinaire and Jondent, put together from 2 live jams in Sydney and Wollongong during Feb 2022...

NLC PSU build 2

This is a smaller version of a Nonlinearcircuit PSU I built earlier.
http://djjondent.blogspot.com.au/2017/02/power-supply-nlc-build-notes.html

It uses a 12VAC Wall Wart power adapter.
The AC output of the wall wart is rectified with diodes so that positive voltage gets stored on the caps that serve the positive voltage regulator (LM7812) and negative voltage gets stored on the caps that serve the negative voltage regulator (LM7912).

I'm putting together this PSU for an old Serge modular but its actually for Eurorack.
The serge uses +12, -12, +6 and ground so I will have to add a 6V regulator to this later.

Some pics:

The PCB receives 12VAC from a plugpack/ wallwart
. The 1N4004 diodes split this into positive and negative waveforms.

The 4700uF capacitors then smooth out these waves
. The 7812 and 7912 regulators then convert the rectified & smoothed
signals to +12V DC and -12V DC and these are fed to the connectors to be distributed to your lovely modules.
I'm using 250v TDK film caps for the four small 100nf caps

 Poor Grandma.
Let's Eat Grandma is a British musical group formed in 2013 by childhood friends Rosa Walton and Jenny Hollingworth.

I decided to use 1K resistors for the LEDs

Some pics of the additional 6V regulator circuit.
 Using a LM7806
330nf on the left. 100nf on the right.

Red +12V, Black 0V, White -12V, Green +6V

A second build.
I have a very confined case.
tRYING TO keep everything as flat as possible.

Buchla 100 - A new Future

To mark the end of 2016 & the beginning of 2017.

Buchla 100 (mostly vintage modules).

Kyoto Station, Japan

Breathtaking. This is the second largest station in Japan (after Nagoya Station) and is one of the country's largest buildings.

I think it's a futuristic masterpiece and should be on your "to do" list when you visit Kyoto, even if you're not into modern architecture.
Opened in 1997 to commemorate Kyoto's 1,200th anniversary, it is 70 meters high and 470 meters from east to west.

The architect was Hiroshi Hara.
He was a professor at the University of Tokyo until 1997, and has held an emeritus position since that time.
Hara's other buildings include the Yamato International Building in Tokyo
and the Umeda Sky in Osaka.
Back to the train station:
The interior is a cathedral of glass and steel. Which reminds me a bit of the Musee D'orsay in Paris.
Both are train stations ...beautiful, though separated by a century.

Take the escalator from the 7th floor on the east side of the building up to the 11th-floor glass corridor, Skyway (open 10am to 10pm).
The Skyway is open 10am to 10pm. It runs high above the main concourse of the station.
Panorama of the Kyoto Tower and surrounds from the train station.

Fairlight CMI IIx - Demo - Locust

This is one of the demo tracks that was released in the 1980s for the Fairlight.
The Fairlight I'm using is vintage 1982.

All sounds are from the fairlight with no added effects, etc

It's important to load the instrument file (LOCUST.IN) first, then load the .RS file (LOCUST.RS).
The image above is a pic of page3 (Keyboard Control)

This is really important. For PageR to work correctly, you must set up page 3.
+ All loaded voices should have a NPHONY of 1.
+ Each register must have its own keyboard.

To load an instrument file type:
L,filename.IN<return>
or
L,IN,filename<return>

An IN file is a collection of VC (voice) file names & keyboard tunings.

Opening page for the Locust tune.

The 3Trins case

I'm putting this portable Video Synth case together for a future gig.

An old Haliburton Zero came in handy.

3TrinsRGB Patches

Recording some patches.
The 3Trins patchbay is where all the magic happens.

This page will develop as I add to the number of patches.
