Electric City

There is a new collaboration with New Sound Waves and Vitalise continuing Electronic Arts meetups in 2023!

Over the past 3 years Elk Elektronik have been running Synth Sessions mainly in Wollongong NSW.

In 2023, Ed has teamed up with the people behind New Sound Waves and Vitalise to continue running regular meets, but also to be able to join with other great initiatives work together on these events.

The Synth Sessions have evolved over this time, introducing elements of video and projection arts, tech talks from local manufacturers and more! With this in mind, we’ve chosen a new name “Electric City - Electronic Art Exploration“, incorporating a wider variety of electronic art forms.
"Electric City" will alternate between Wollongong and Sydney on the same schedule as previously - once every 2 months.

Nice !

LZX Cyclops - Lazer projector interface

Last night at the NewSoundWaves meeting I was mesmerized by the LZX Cyclops in action.

Many thanks to our fearless leader, Ilya for the demo.

This module converts EuroRack modular signals to the International Laser Display Association (ILDA) specification for laser show projectors.

A post shared by jono (@dj_jondent) on
My understanding is that the computer control signal is convertered to ILDA by a Digital Analogue Converter (DAC), also called "ILDA Interface", combined with laser software.
The ILDA control signal uses a very dense transmission structure, as it has to control every single color change and every re-positioning of the scanner. This is entirely different to the DMX system which transmits only low level information.

There are 5 channels:
The X and Y CV inputs accept different ranges of signals: (+/-5V)
The red, green & blue takes 0-5V.
Each CV input has a dedicated attenuator and bias knob for precise modulation control, and both the X and Y inputs feature switches for inverting the CV.
There are selectable low-pass filters on X & Y channels with settings for 20KPPS and 30KPPS projectors & filter bypass.
Finally, a master scale knob allows for the adjustment of the overall projection size. Patching oscillators (especially quadrature VCOs) into the modules CV inputs allows for the creation of oscillographics and lissajous curves".

The module uses a standard DB25 serial connector port.

A DIY synth workshop
This first workshop is aimed at beginners or anyone who wants to learn how to build a Eurorack Synth case. It is held in cooperation with Sydney-based Metro Modular and will provide participants with a robust 6Ux104HP carry-case with a lid (optional).

I had the pleasure of seeing the early prototype of the case everyone will build.

New Sound Waves - Eurorack case build

Some pics of the new DIY eurorack case being designed by New Sound Waves.
This will be built only in limited numbers.
tHE final design is still being discussed.

The power supply will be designed my MetroModular of Sydney, Australia.

The case will be offered in stained and unstained versions.

It's possible that one version will have a extra "separator" between the base and lid to allow it to be closed fully patched.

More details coming.....
